Sculpture exhibition is held at the Boston Athenaeum.
May 31, 1844
(May) The event is meant to celebrate Thomas Crawford’s statue of Orpheus, but it arrives from Italy in pieces and must be repaired, delaying the opening of the show. The exhibit also includes a bust of William Hickling Prescott by Richard Saltonstall Greenough that helps launch that sculptor’s career.
